GS1 Work Group Being Formed for Traceability Standards in Healthcare

Through an email  we received from Janice Kite, Traceability Director Healthcare, GS1 Global Office, we’ve been alerted that a Work Group is being formed that would welcome your expertise if you are a healthcare supply chain stakeholder. This includes regulators, suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, institutional providers, and dispensers. The first meeting is scheduled for March 31st so there’s plenty of time to sign on and here is an overview of the Work Group’s mission:

…to develop a suite of process and technical standards necessary to achieve end to end (raw materials to patient care) global supply chain traceability (that is: track forward/downstream and trace backward/upstream). The suite of process and technical standards will be the foundation for:
- ultimately achieving the GS1 Vision for Traceability in Healthcare
- through the incremental implementation of traceability systems that enable Patient Safety, Regulatory Compliance, Supply chain safety and integrity.

The Call to Action notice about the Traceability in Healthcare II Work Group is here at this link. It provides a much more detailed overview of the scope of work, the timetable and the people involved.
