The IDG World Expo people have just come out with their preview of expected show stoppers at the upcoming Macworld 2009 which opens next week. One new product caught my eye. It is the 7th item down in this report.
…a next-generation scanner and intelligent home software solution that organizes home assets and valuables with barcode technology. Packaged in a sleek, metallic cubed box, IntelliScanner mini automatically tracks books, wine, comics, DVDs and more – simply plug it in and start getting organized.
Not to be picky, but is the word ‘tracks’ in that description correct since they’re talking barcodes and not RFID? Barcodes don’t track anything for you. You track barcodes, right? And two, can you envision yourself doing this? If so, please leave a comment here explaining it so I can get educated on the reasons why anyone would want to add barcodes to books, bottles of wine and all over everything else. Is residential barcoding is the next big thing?
